Afric Showbiz reports that the Court of Appeal in Lagos has upheld actor Baba Ijesha’s 5-year jail term.
Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo (retd.) of the Ikeja Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court initially sentenced Baba Ijesha to five years in prison for the sexual assault of a minor on July 12, 2022.
Baba Ijesha appealed the judgment through his counsel, Kayode Olabiran.
Justice Folashade Ojo delivered the appellate court’s judgment on Thursday, June 27, 2024.
The court set aside the conviction on indecent treatment of a child and sexual assault of a minor between 2013-2014, considering the testimony of PW1 (Damilola Adekoya) as hearsay.
However, Baba Ijesha’s confession to the crime in police statements regarding the April 19, 2021, incident was deemed credible.
The appellate court affirmed Baba Ijesha’s imprisonment for the indecent treatment of a child and sexual assault from the April 2021 incident, stating that the prosecution proved its case beyond a reasonable doubt.
