The Nigerian Society of Engineers, NSE, has reaffirmed its commitment to engage relevant stakeholders on the need to address food insecurity in the country.
President of the NSE, Engr. Margaret Oguntala, stated that the organisation would attract funding partners, including Bank of Industry, BOI, and Nigerian Export-Import Bank, NEXIMBANK, to help farmers scale their agri-businesses, thereby promoting economic empowerment and food security for Nigeria.
Oguntala made these remarks at the inaugural Engr. Ademola Isaac Olorunfemi, FNSE, FAEng Public Discourse and Dinner, which took place at the NSE Manchester Branch during the Northern Powerhouse Stakeholders’ event.
Expressing concern over the widespread food insecurity affecting the country, she emphasised that there is no better time to take action than now, given the pressing nature of the issue.
She highlighted that food security goes beyond the mere availability of food; it also involves accessibility, affordability, and the quality of food essential for a healthy life.
Speaking on the theme, “Achieving Food Security in Nigeria with Diaspora Engagement,” Oguntala urged all stakeholders to back the food security initiatives in the country.
She stated that the Diaspora community holds extensive knowledge, skills, and resources. She added that involving Diaspora professionals can help address the nation’s local needs effectively.
