Suspected Cases: 417 in 20 Local Government Areas
The information was provided by the state commissioner for health, Prof Akin Abayomi, via his Twitter handle @ProfAkinAbayomi, based on the Lagos State Cholera Outbreak Situation Report (EPI Week 25) as of 19th June 2024.
Abayomi stated, “The situation report indicates 417 suspected cases, 35 confirmed cases, and total of 24 recorded deaths. The graphs depict the distribution of cases across the 20 LGAs in the state.”
The peak of the outbreak in Lagos occurred in Ajeromi, Kosofe, Epe, Ikorodu, Alimosho, and Eti-Osa LGAs on June 10, 2024.
Abayomi advised Lagos residents to prioritize personal and environmental hygiene to minimize the risk of infection.
The Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Health, Dr. Kemi Ogunyemi, reported 21 deaths and 401 suspected cases in the state.
Lagos Island, Kosofe, and Eti Osa had the highest number of infections according to the announcement.
