The movie is based on a real event that took place on June 7, 2005, in Nigeria known as Apo 6. On that day, five young Igbo men, Ifeanyi Ozor, Chinedu Meniru, Anthony Nwokike, Paulinus Ogbonna, and Ekene Isaac Mgbe, along with Augustina Arebu, Ozor’s wife, tragically lost their lives. They were brutally killed at a police checkpoint in Gimbiya Street, Area 11, Gariki, Abuja by officers of the Nigerian Police Force, led by former deputy commissioner of police (DCP) Danjuma Ibrahim. The incident stemmed from the female victim’s refusal of the senior officer’s romantic advances at a nightclub in the city.
Ikeji previously directed a feature film based on a real event. The movie “Dark October,” released in 2023, addressed the sensitive topic of the Aluu 4 lynching.
The film depicts the story of four Nigerian university students who visited a specific location to confront a debtor. The debtor falsely accused them of attempted robbery, leading to a mob labeling them as thieves and subsequently lynching them. This tragic event triggered a nationwide crisis.
Notable actors such as Gideon Okeke, Charles Lenny, April Chidinma, Ali Nuhu, Dante Okere, and Femi Branch are set to star in the upcoming film “The Night of.”
