Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) releases additional photos of Suleja prison escapees.

The mass escape took place on 24th April after heavy rainfall damaged the prison walls, enabling 118 inmates to escape. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Minister of Interior, attributed the old and weakened condition of the facility as the reason and assured that the government would take steps to prevent similar incidents in the future.

NCoS spokesperson Abubakar Umar stated on 6th June that 23 escapees had been recaptured. Subsequently, on 15th June, NCoS published the names of the 18 remaining escapees on its website.

The previously identified escapees include Ogbonna Kingsley, Auwal Mohammed, Mustapha Ibrahim, Suleiman Sani, Raphael Kelly, Abdullahi Babangida, Idris Bashir, Umar Mustapha, Ayuba Obedience, Lamido Gambo, Garba Fidelis, Mohammed Jibrin, Sylvester Allison, Albert Israel, Edoga Okwudili, Olaiya Stephen, Ibrahim Aminu, and Audu Usman.

Abubakar Umar has now revealed the names and photos of an additional 13 missing inmates, bringing the total number of publicly known fugitives to 31.

Umar highlighted that the NCoS has implemented “overt and covert” strategies to ensure the recapture of the escapees. He urged sister security agencies and the public to help in locating and bringing back the fugitives.

“The information of the fugitives is hereby published for sister security agencies as well as the general public to look out for them in an attempt to recapture them and bring them back to the facility,” Umar said.

The NCoS has provided several contact options for reporting sightings and urges anyone with information on the whereabouts of the fugitives to promptly contact the nearest security officer or agency.
