The Borno State Police Command has detained nine protesters for brandishing Russian flags in Maiduguri.
The State Commissioner of Police in Borno, CP Yusuf Lawal, made this announcement to the press on Tuesday, August 6, 2024. The individuals were apprehended on August 5 in the Zannari Tamsu region.
The detainees were named as Khalafi Abdulhamid, Mohammed Abubakar, Mohamed Ibrahim, Abba Hassan, Bashir Ahmad, Musa Lawan, Abba Mallam, Habibu Auwal, and Inusa Abdullahi.
“The suspects were transferred to the Crack Squad for discreet investigation and diligent prosecution,” he said.
The commissioner stated that the state has returned to normalcy. The police will continue monitoring and patrolling the area to ensure public safety.
Protesters carrying foreign flags have been seen in Kano, Abuja, Kaduna, and Borno since the nationwide demonstrations began on August 1.
