On April 29, 2024, during the early morning hours, Wizkid logged into his X account to interact with his fans. He came across a post by Ladipoe discussing how Afrobeats is experiencing its “Afrobeats is dead” phase, reminiscent of Hip Hop surviving the “Hip hop is dead” narrative that Wizkid had previously contributed to.

Wizkid responded by stating that he has never engaged in conversations with artists signed by an influencer, in a statement aimed at mocking Don Jazzy, the head of Mavin Records, by referring to him as an influencer.

Wizkid’s comment sparked a reaction as many observers were not pleased with him referring to Don Jazzy as an influencer.
Although Jazzy may indeed be an influencer, showcasing artists and content creators on his Instagram page, his role as a label boss in the history of Afrobeats is unparalleled on the continent.
Don Jazzy hasnβt stayed relevant for 20 years to be disrespected like that.
